New Year – New Attitude
Change your brain, change your life.
“Your brain is the hardware of your soul. It is the hardware of your very essence as a human being. You cannot be who you really want to be unless your brain works right. How your brain works determines how happy you are, how effective you feel, and how well you interact with others. Your brain patterns help you (or hurt you) with your marriage, parenting skills, work, and religious beliefs, along with your experiences of pleasure and pain.”
- Dr. Amen, MD, Author, Change your brain, change your life
I’m sure now that the new year is here most of you have resolved to get in shape, this time – for real. You have set out with good intentions but the bad news is most of you are not going to conquer your weight issues this year. And the reason you will not succeed yet, again, is because you have not properly prepared for what really needs to happen for long-term success. Most of you will set a weight-loss goal and when you hit that goal, you’ll return to old eating habits and will undoubtedly pack on more pounds than before. There are some of you who REALLY hate working out and sweating (I know, because I’m training a few of you), but will stick with a workout regime for at least 90 days or so and then it’s back to the same ole routine. Some of you may have eating disorders or traumatic upbringings or may be less stress resilient than most and without proper counseling or therapy, those issues will not go away. Whatever your issue is, the remedy always begins in our heads.
Your weight loss success this year will depend on a number of things. The primary factor will be your level of commitment to changing the way you think. Developing a positive mental attitude is the real work because some of you battle automatic negative thoughts on a daily basis. You’re telling yourself, you can’t do this or can’t do that, or I’m too fat or whatever. This constant barrage of negativity is soaked up by your subconscious mind and before you know it, you are repeating destructive patterns again and again. Therefore, you will have to work hard every day to counter those negative thought patterns with positive images and affirmations about yourself. I would strongly suggest getting on Amazon or going to the library and reading any books by; Anthony Robbins, Stephen Covey, Dan Millman, or by any author writing about achieving success and personal growth. The bottom line is INSPIRATION. What is going to inspire you to change your life? Whatever or where ever it is, you need to find it.
“The ancestor of every action is a thought.” -Ralph Waldo Emerson
As we strive to achieve a positive mindset, the next step is ACTION. How are you going to wake up every day, get the kids ready for school, prepare for the business meeting at ten, work until six, get home, make dinner and prepare for the madness tomorrow and find time to eat right AND workout? How exactly is this going to happen? If are asking these questions, it means you have not pulled out your calendar to perform a little time management for the week. Yes, you will have to schedule your work outs, stick to the designated time AND prepare your meals two to three days in advance. You will have to learn how to shop better at the grocery store and you will also have to learn how to modify and pick healthier selections at restaurants and while dining at the homes of friends. You will have to exercise discipline by turning down offers of junk food or cookies, donuts, etc. The body does not need a whole lot of sugar. When the sweet tooth hits, chew a piece of gum or eat a piece of fruit…continue to swap out bad habits with good ones and before you know it, you’ll be living a healthy lifestyle!
Being mentally and physically fit can be quite a challenge if you’re not a professional athlete who gets paid to stay in great shape. Yet, the human body was not designed to be a couch potato. We need to move more and eat less. The best thing you can do for yourself this year is to work on personal growth, work on YOURSELF. Put yourself at the top of the priority list for a change. Get use to saying “NO” and don’t feel obligated to make commitments to others if it’s going to stress you or make you miss a workout because of it. If your workout buddy can’t make it to the gym – go anyway. Stop making excuses and do the work that’s necessary to make you a better person.
Follow the simple rules and begin the gradual transition from fat to fit:
If you don’t already, begin taking a good multi-vitamin and mineral supplement with all 10 essential amino acids, especially glutamine. These supplements provide our brain and cells with the nutrients we need to feel and look better.
Eat more raw and un-processed organic foods. Processed foods will not provide you with the nutrients needed to fuel the body.
Food is FUEL – so gas up every 3 hours or so. DO NOT STARVE YOURSELF ALL DAY.
Stop consuming large quantities of carbohydrates at night – this includes alcohol. One glass of wine at dinner is okay, not the whole bottle! Eat the bulk of your daily calories at breakfast and lunch and have a protein based meal for dinner. Your last meal should be four hours before bedtime. If you’re hungry after dinner – drink a glass of milk or have an 8 ounce protein shake.
Drink plenty of water. Don’t cry about it – just do it. Should you have hunger pangs and it isn’t quite time to eat yet, drink water. Most of the time, those hunger pangs is just the body’s signal that it needs water – SO DRINK UP!
Eat at least 35grams of fiber each day.
Walk or exercise 30 minutes every day. Don’t cry about it – just do it!
I wish you much success in your endeavor to become mentally and physically fit in the year to come. Spend the entire year getting to know you better and then pass on the love of self to others around you. As we heal ourselves, we heal the world.
“Purpose – Clarify what you want and align you actions with the desired results. Live with vision, intention and determination.” -Anonymous
Peace, love and push-ups!

Tips for healthy eating during the holidays
by Chris on Nov.25, 2009, under Fitness

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
EVERYONE!
Yes, turkey day is upon us and everyone is geared up to throw down. So here’s a few tips for staying on track while being tempted by all those tasty morsels of high fat, high sugar, high calorie dishes and desserts!
1. Do not starve yourself all day before having Thanksgiving dinner. Have a healthy breakfast and lunch and drink plenty of water throughout the day.
2. Eat on a smaller plate and take your time eating.
3. Avoid going back for seconds.
4. Have a healthy portion of protein but chill on the big spoons of mac&cheese and potatoes and go easy on the gravy.
5. Leave some food on the plate. Do this and you can easily leave close to 100 calories behind (or off of your behind) per meal.
6. Go for a nice 20-30 minute walk after dinner.
7. And remember – a minute on the lips but forever on the hips!!
That’s it. Enjoy your holiday!
Baldwin Rocks endorsing Max Intl supplements
by Chris on Nov.09, 2009, under Fitness

Over the last couple of months, I have been taking a supplement called MaxGxl, which has been formulated to naturally raises the body’s glutathione levels and aid our immune systems. I felt the effects of Max immediately –my energy levels rose and now, I have the same amount of energy after 2pm that I have during the morning hours. Not only that, but the recovery time after a hard workout has been significantly reduced. Simply put, this product is AMAZING! And the doctor that created Max is no quack – Dr. Robert Keller, MD was a top physician in his field and his patients loved him because of his passion and dedication to improving their quality of life. He was also awarded a composition patent for the MaxGxl product.

TIME TO GET LEAN AND MEAN! LET’S DO THIS!!
October Challenge – V is for…
by Chris on Oct.06, 2009, under Fitness
VIVACIOUS VEGETARIANS!
This month’s challenge is taking us Vegan, vegetarian or semi-vegetarian for two weeks. We will begin on the 15th and end on the 30th of October. You will decide how extreme you wish to travel. I personally, will go semi-veg and cut out all meat but will still consume a little dairy and eggs for my protein, cuz I’m back in the gym training.
If you’re a true carnivore, you should certainly feel a difference in your digestive system after two weeks of going meet free. I quit eating pork and red meat over 25 years ago and the first thing I noticed was how light I felt in the lower abdominal region. Meat digestion taxes the gastrointestinal system heavily and eating lots of red meat leads to higher risks of colon cancer according to the American Cancer Society.
This challenge is geared to modify your eating habits.. and our eating habits have the biggest impact on how we look and feel. So give your body a rest for two weeks and find a new veggie dish to dive into. Have fun!
The Rules -
1. Consume nothing but grains, nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables, free-range eggs, cheese, milk and milk products if you’re going vegetarian. If you’re going vegan, you can scratch all dairy products from this list. And you must give up wearing your leather shoes, coats and jackets, wool sweaters, etc.
2. Consume at least 25 grams of fiber per day
3. Drink 8 glasses of water each day – this includes, tea (not coffee), electrolyte water, vitamin water (in limited amounts)
4. Absolutely, positively – NO SODA – diet or other wise
5. No junk food, no ice cream, etc.
6. Try to use only organic or locally grown fruits, veggies and nuts
Veggie/vegan descriptions:
A vegetarian is someone who does not eat meat, fish, poultry or any slaughterhouse by-product such as gelatine. Vegetarians live on a diet of grains, pulses, nuts, seeds, vegetables and fruit, with or without free-range eggs, milk and milk products. Vegetarians not eating anything containing dairy products or eggs are called vegans. Vegans also avoid using any products made with fur, leather, wool, down, and cosmetics or chemical products tested on animals.

If you want to order organic veggies from a local artisan, contact Kanita Petties at www.badanbody.com She’s planting peas right about now!!
